HTML VS WordPress
Today, the web is built using HTML language. There are many systems that create pages and websites in a faster and easier-to-manage way. But what exactly is a webpage? What is a website? To clear up any confusion, let’s define them first:
1. What is a webpage?
- A webpage is simply a document written in a markup language like HTML, which can contain other elements (behind the scenes), such as CSS, Javascript, images, text, links, etc.
2. What is a website?
- A website is where everything related to your company is structured, on a domain that allows access to different tabs (pages). For example, DIMARK.CO, where you can access its various links such as courses, resources, blog, contact (all these links are webpages), but structured within the same domain. All of these together form a website, working cohesively.
A website can also be a web application. Websites allow you to inform about the company for which they are created, and they can also be used for marketing purposes. This is why these sites can be replaced and created using WordPress, depending on the objective.
WordPress
WordPress is one of the most popular website creation systems. It is a CMS that allows the creation of both static (only code) and dynamic (with a database, etc.) websites, making it easier without requiring all the knowledge that a web developer would need (HTML, CSS, JS).
Tools like WordPress are mostly used by marketing professionals, focusing on sales strategies or attracting more customers. These websites do not require knowledge of code, libraries, or databases.
Websites built like Netflix, Facebook, Notion, Twitter, Instagram, etc., are created using programming languages and frameworks from a technical perspective. These sites cannot be built using WordPress (this is where the debate of whether to build a website with HTML or use a CMS comes in). They need something more customized (these are the business itself). For example, Facebook, Instagram, Netflix, Spotify, etc., require more components like libraries, frameworks, and are built by web developers.
Depending on the goals of the project, you may or may not use a CMS like WordPress. Typically, businesses start by creating a site with WordPress and then, as they grow, scale it up to build with programming languages and hire a web developer.
HTML and WordPress are two different things—neither is better than the other. It all depends on the needs of the business or client. In summary:
- WordPress websites are built for a marketing strategy.
- A web application is software created with web technologies, using HTML, CSS, Javascript, frameworks, libraries, databases, etc. It’s not just a site to consume information.
- HTML requires advanced web development knowledge.
- WordPress is a content management system (CMS) that provides a more user-friendly interface without needing extensive developer knowledge. WordPress has a 40% share of the web.
Most users visiting a website won’t notice whether it was built with WordPress or just HTML code, because the difference is minimal. The major difference lies in how they are managed in a quicker, simpler, and easier way.
In conclusion, it’s not about which is better. You should always consider the user’s needs. When you want to create a website, evaluate the client’s needs first. Remember, building a site with WordPress is different from creating one with a web developer. Always evaluate the cost, maintenance, and ease of changing content.
